MineAssets Editor vs Blockbench: an Honest Comparison

Blockbench is the reference tool for Minecraft modelling, and it deserves that reputation. This is not an article claiming otherwise. It is an article about which one to open, and when.

Where Blockbench still wins

  • Plugins. Years of community extensions cover formats and workflows we simply do not have.
  • Formats. It handles far more than Java and Bedrock — entity models, optifine, custom exporters.
  • Maturity. Edge cases have been found and fixed by a very large user base.

If your workflow already depends on a Blockbench plugin, keep using Blockbench. Nothing here beats that.

Where the browser editor helps

  • Nothing to install. Useful when the machine is not yours, locked down, or a Chromebook — and when you want a teammate to look at a model in the next thirty seconds.
  • Studio rendering built in. A three-point light rig, look presets, a Minecraft ground and drifting clouds, then a PNG up to 4× or an MP4 up to 1080p60. Getting a presentable image out is part of the tool, not a separate exercise.
  • Publishing. One click sends the baked model and the studio thumbnail to your MineAssets store.
  • Live collaboration. Share a room link and edit the same model together.

They share a file format

Both read and write .bbmodel. Import brings box UVs across as per-face UVs and keeps bezier handles; export gives a file Blockbench opens. Use the browser for a quick change or a render, the desktop for a plugin-heavy job, and move the file between them.

The honest summary

If you model professionally every day, Blockbench is your tool and ours is a companion for rendering and publishing. If you make a handful of models a month and want them to look good on a listing, the browser editor may be all you need.

Try it and judge for yourself — it costs nothing but a tab.
