Nobody Sells What You Need? Commission It

Search the catalogue for a 300x300 medieval spawn with custom terrain and you may well find nothing. Marketplaces are good at the things many people want. They are bad at the thing you want.

That is what commissions are for: you describe the work, creators quote on it, and one of them builds it.

Why not just DM someone on Discord

Most custom Minecraft work is still arranged in direct messages, and the two failure modes are always the same. The buyer pays up front and the creator disappears. Or the creator delivers and the buyer stops replying.

Both happen because one person is holding all the money at the wrong time.

On MineAssets the payment is held by us. The creator cannot touch it while the work is in progress, and the buyer cannot walk away with the files without paying. Our team then checks the delivery against the brief before releasing anything.

Write a brief that gets accurate quotes

A vague brief gets vague quotes, and vague quotes get renegotiated halfway through. Creators price risk, so ambiguity costs you money.

Put these in writing:

  • Dimensions and scale. "A spawn" is not a size. 300x300 blocks, playable area 200x200 is.
  • Style and references. Link two or three builds you like. One image beats a paragraph.
  • The Minecraft version and platform. Java 1.21, Bedrock, or both. Say it explicitly.
  • The deliverables. A schematic? A world folder? A resource pack? A .bbmodel with animations? Name the files you expect to receive.
  • What must NOT be there. Plugin dependencies you can't install, resource packs you won't ship, AI-generated textures — if it matters, write it.
  • Your deadline. Even a soft one. It changes who quotes.

Two sentences of specificity here are worth more than a long paragraph of adjectives.

Set an honest budget

You can post a range, or leave it open. A range gets you better-targeted quotes: creators whose rate is far outside it simply don't spend time on your brief.

Underpricing on purpose rarely works. It filters out the people who could actually do the job and attracts the ones who will discover halfway through that it takes three times longer than they thought.

How the steps work

Once you accept a quote, the job moves through a tracker you can follow:

1. Request — your brief is live and creators can quote.
2. Quote accepted — you pick one; the price is locked.
3. Payment secured — your money is held by MineAssets. The creator starts.
4. In production — the creator is working; the discussion stays open.
5. Delivered — the creator hands over the files.
6. Approved and paid — we check the delivery against your brief, then release the payment.

If the delivery doesn't match what you asked for, it goes back for changes or you get refunded. That decision is ours, not the creator's and not yours — which is what stops either side gaming it.

Rights: say what you need up front

Two questions decide what you can legally do with the result, and both are on the request form:

  • Commercial use — do you need the right to use it on a public or monetised server? Almost always yes.
  • Exclusivity — may the creator resell the same work to somebody else? Exclusive work costs more, and is worth it for a spawn that defines your server's identity.

Agreeing on this after delivery is how disputes start.

Commissioning a specific creator

If you already know whose work you want, you can send the brief to one store rather than the open board. Their page has a Commission this creator button, and the request stays private between you.

Otherwise leave it open: several creators quote, and you compare prices, turnaround and how they describe their approach.
